Our Approach to Acting Workshops | ACTiO[n]

OUR APPROACH.

A rehearsal room should be somewhere you can try things.

Make a choice. See what happens. Change something. Try again.

ACTiO[n] is built around exploration, attention and response. The point is to work, notice what changes and discover what happens when you try another way

There’s always another choice to explore.

TRY ANOTHER WAY.

Sometimes a scene opens up when one thing changes.

A different intention, pace, focus, physicality or relationship can alter a scene completely. Try a new possibility, notice what shifts and keep what serves the work.

Change one thing. See what it opens.

DIFFERENT STARTING POINTS. SAME ROOM.

People arrive with different experience. What matters is that everyone has room to explore, contribute and keep developing.

CURIOUS.

Ask what else might be possible. Try the unexpected choice rather than settling for the first one.

PRACTICAL.

Get the work on its feet. Technique becomes useful when you can test it in a scene and notice what changes.

GENEROUS.

Listen, respond and make space for other actors. The room works best when everyone helps the work move forward.

Different experience. Shared work.

NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO BECOME A PRODUCTION.

There is freedom in working on a scene because it is worth exploring, not because it has to be ready for opening night.

We can stop, revisit, swap approaches and try material that stretches us. Performance opportunities may happen, but they are not the reason the room exists.

The work matters before there is an audience.

COME AND HAVE A GO.

The first ACTiO[n] acting group is being developed for Newport, South Wales.

Register your interest to hear first about the venue, dates and how to join.

There’s no commitment — just tell us you’d like to know more.
