ABOUT ACTiO[n].
Where do adults go when they want to act — without having to join a show?
ACTiO[n] grew from that question.
It is being created as a regular place for adults to work on acting, keep developing and enjoy the rehearsal room for its own sake.
Somewhere to keep doing the work.
BEHIND ACTiO[n].
ACTiO[n] was founded by Lawrence Hayes, a teacher, performer and facilitator with a long-standing love of acting, singing and creative learning.
His work in education has included drama and Creative Learning through Arts Council of Wales, alongside years of performing in local theatre.
ACTiO[n] brings those worlds together: serious creative work, practical teaching and the simple pleasure of getting into a room and acting.
Teaching the work. Doing the work. Still learning from the work.
EXPERIENCE THAT FEEDS THE ROOM.
Different parts of the work shape ACTiO[n] — and each brings something useful into the rehearsal room.
TEACHING.
Clear explanation matters, but the learning happens through doing. Get people working, give them something useful to try, and build from what happens.
PERFORMING.
Being on stage keeps the work connected to what actors actually need: listening, choice, confidence, responsiveness and a relationship with the other people in the scene.
CREATIVE LEARNING.
Curiosity, experimentation and reflection all have a place. Try an idea, notice what changes and use what you discover to decide where to go next.
Experience matters when you keep using it.
STARTING IN NEWPORT. BUILT TO GROW.
The first ACTiO[n] acting group is being developed in Newport, South Wales.
That is where the project begins — not where the idea ends. The aim is to build a regular, sustainable place for acting and let future workshops, collaborations and focused coaching grow naturally from the work.
